Upcycling Leather
During 2024 I started exploring making items from old leather items such as saddles and bridles. Many old saddles are now not useable on horses due to many reasons. I started experimenting on what i could use old saddles for save them just going into land fill. Leather is a material that does not rot down quickly therefor it could be sat in landfill for many many years. Therefor I started making bags out of them. Old leather is some of the best leather, so making bags from them means they are perfect for everyday use. I also started making toilet roll holders from old horse bits and leather bridles and also towel holders from old stirrup leathers and stirrups.
The Billet Bag
The Billet Bag is completely made from a old well used saddle. The main body of the bag is made from the saddle flaps and the gullet is made from the under panel of the saddle. I have made the handle from a browband from a bridle. The fastner (billet) and the thread are the only new parts on this bag.
The Saddle Bag
This large bag is called The Saddle Bag. The main of the bag is made from an old saddle, the gullet and over flap is made from gorgeous green new leather. This bag has a long adjustable shoulder strap which is made from an old pair of reins. I have used new stunning brass buckles and green thread.
Bit Toilet Roll Holder
The Bit Toilet Roll Holder is made from an leather bridle.
The Stirrup Towel Holder
The Stirrup Towel Holder is made from an old stirrup leather and stirrup. Stirrups have changed a lot over the years meaning a lot of the old metal ones are no longer used.
